General Admissions Policies 2009- 2010

All prospective students must be approved by school administration before they will be allowed to enroll at the International Christian Academy of Nagoya (ICAN).
In addition, the following general conditions apply:

1. Class space must be available that does not exceed the maximum number of students at each grade level.
The maximum number of students for kindergarten: 20 (two teachers); and for grades 1-9: 18 students.
2. Children from all religious backgrounds are accepted.  However, parents and students must agree to the student's participation in ICAN's Christian activities and Biblical studies.
3. ICAN maintains a rigorous academic curriculum. All students are expected to work diligently at school and complete home assignments. Students may advance at ICAN only upon successful completion of a grade. Students do not advance grades because they are older.
4. Students will be placed in classes based on their English ability. This is determined either through ICAN entrance tests or by evidence from previous schooling.
5. Students must be five years of age by September 1 of the year they enter kindergarten. Students above kindergarten must also fit birth date requirements for their particular grade. Exceptions are rare and must be granted by the director based on written and verbal assessments.
6. All students must pass academic entrance tests or give evidence of satisfactory academic levels from previous English-speaking schools.
7. ICAN is only able to provide limited services to students with exceptional learning, social, emotional, or physical needs. Acceptance of students with special needs is determined based on available space.
8. Parents must follow the ICAN application process which includes:
- Completion of the application.
- Photocopy of student’s passport.
- Transcripts, testing, and behavioral records from previous school(s).
- Immunization records.
- Payment of required fees.
